Chris' best friend, Greg, needs a place to stay while his dad is out of town. He doesn't want to stay with his aunt because she, apparently, dresses in lederhosen with her friends and throws parties. Chris tells Greg that he can stay at his house instead. He asks his mom and, though she didn't really want to since she didn't have time to prepare, she agrees to let Greg stay. She tells Chris to tell Greg not to expect anything special, yet when they get home she serves Greg special food.
Greg is excited to be in a different environment than he's used to. Chris' siblings are disappointed because they have to eat vegetables and tofu because Greg can't really have meat. At the dinner table, Greg discovers that Chris' dad, Julius, has 2 jobs and is even trying out a 3rd job driving a cab on the side. "Wow. When do you sleep?' Greg asks and everyone in the family laughs. Greg is a little confused about what's so funny.
That night, Chris discovers that Greg sleeps in super hero costumes at night, snores, dances, and sings in his sleep. Chris tries his best to put up with the noise through the night. He wakes Greg up at 5am in the morning, explaining how it takes a long time to get to school from his house. But once Greg is up, he hogs the bathroom then gets another specially cooked meal for breakfast while the rest of the kids eat cereal.
Greg falls asleep in class and Chris explains that Greg is staying at his house. Their racist teacher is alarmed and asks if they gave Greg a 40 for breakfast. Greg tells her no and that's he's just not used to getting up so early. The teacher says it's okay and she understands because Chris' "people" have a history of getting up at the crack of dawn to work in the fields and Greg's don't. Chris is annoyed but doesn't say anything.
Meanwhile, Julius is working his new cabbie job. He picks up a fare that asks him to take him to Vegas. Julius refuses, but the guys offers to pay him $1,000 and, after calling Rochelle and getting approval, he agrees to drive the guy. The guy turns out to be a crook and robs several places on his was to Vegas. Julius doesn't notice though and just thinks the guy is making stops for food and other stuff.
At home, Chris takes Greg around the neighborhood. Greg gets robbed by Jerome who gives him the nickname "Little white dude from across the street" and takes a dollar from him. Greg thinks it's cool he just got robbed. He then gets suckered by Risky into buying a shirt someone got shot in for $5. When they get home, Chris is tired since he was also working at his job after school. The kids want to watch another tv show, but since Greg wants to watch NOVA, Rochelle makes them all watch it.
At bed time Chris is tired and Rochelle doesn't notice. She notices Greg is tired and asks him what's wrong and also asks Chris to go draw him a bath. Chris refused and Greg says it's okay because he's going to sleep anyway. Chris is fed up. He tells Greg that he has it good at his house because he doesn't have to get up early and take 2 buses to school and work after school too. He says he's tired of doing things for Greg and everyone treating him better and Greg says fine "Don't do anything else for me!" they go to sleep angry at each other. The next morning, Chris doesn't wake Greg up for school and when Greg gets to school late he's mad at Chris. "You told me not to do anything for you anymore." Chris retorts.
The boys eventually reconcile when Rochelle explains that she's only been being nice to Greg for 3 days while she's been taking care of Chris for 15 years. It's not that she's treating Greg better than him, just being nice because he's Chris' friend. The boys apologize to each other and Greg explains how he thinks Chris' life is so great because Chris is not alone while he has to do everything on his own since his dad is rarely around.
Then, Julius finally gets to Vegas with the bank robber and the police catch them. The guy tries to hold Julius as a hostage and says he'll use him as a human shield. It's only then Julius finds out who the guy really is. The robber's girlfriend (the reason why the robber was stealing all the money so he could get back with her) convinces him to give up and let Julius go. The police arrest Julius as a suspect though. He gets out of jail and returns home to his family who are excited to see him.
Chris learns that even though Greg has fancy toys and games and things, it's nothing compared to the family he has.
